Who We Are

UNION THEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE, UTI

The Union Theological Institute, UTI, is a multi-denominational theological Seminary. It was founded in 2019 in response to the desperate need for a new generation of Christian leaders with deeper spirituality, integrity and conviction about the unity for which Christ prayed: “That they may be one”(John 17: 21).
It is a Theological and Pastoral training institution that de-emphasize the "church culture" mantra that tends more to dividing the body of Christ than building unity.

The Bible is a cross-cultural (cc) training document. It has the only absolutes that we possess. A member of any culture can use it safely to relate both to God and to fellow humans. Ted Ward, a Missiologist, has said that commonalities outweigh differences among people.

Without the development of such leaders the Church will be unable to impact future generations with the gospel of peace. Just as the division in Christendom is a "scandal" to the body of Christ - the visible unity among Christians will foster peace in the church and in the world at large.

The Institute has developed a new paradigm of leadership based in spiritual formation that will enhance unity and religious tolerance. It is effectively implemented through an academic programme in Theological disciplines for Church workers and Christian leaders.

The Institute is inter-denominational in scope, Trinitarian in dimension namely, Orthodox - Episcopalian - Evangelical and Ecumenical in character, working in partnership with denominations, churches, parachurch organizations and seminaries. It is currently affiliated to and accredited by the Board of Covenant Christian University under its religious training arm of Covenant Theological Seminary Lahore, Pakistan. It is also seeking to obtain a full accreditation with Association for Theological Education in Africa, ACTEA.

Mission Statement

To develop a Christ-like servant-leader who is committed to Christ and His Great Commission.

VISION

To know Jesus Christ and to make him known through the Word.

Accomplishment

This shall be accomplished through the following ways:

The Word of God – By thoroughly grounding prospective Christian worker in the Word of God, to understand its basic content and apply its principles to life and ministry.

Spiritual Transformation – By prayerfully depending on God to continue to accelerate the process of transformation that He has already begun in our students through the UTI. Also guiding students through teaching and mentoring to develop character, that they may become Christ-like, being all things to all men.

Academic and Ministry Excellence – By training through learning and experience, in theory and praxis to build leadership and ministerial skills, in such a model that humbles the leader as one who serves.

Worship of Christ – By enthroning Christ as the centre of Theology in every aspect of the curriculum and living that challenges our students to commit themselves wholeheartedly to Christ and His mission.

Missional Focus – By exposing students to inculturation and the global demand for evangelization, while involving them where need be in cross cultural ministry.
